Our History - 2001
May 2001
5th Annual Work Days Weekend - Local missionary work weekend benefited Cornerstone Manor (Women's Shelter), and St. Luke's Mission of Mercy (Homeless Rehabilitation Center). 80 volunteers painted, repaired, and rebuilt dwellings for these local missions.
Second Annual Memorial Day Parade Food Drive - Collected non-perishable items for the local food pantries. Originally spawned from the idea of a 11 year old youth, this year the program collected 101 bags of food for local area pantries.
August 2001
Back to School Back-Packs - In response to the request to assist local needy families, 104 back-packs filled with school supplies for less fortunate High School students were delivered to the area schools for distribution.
September 2001
Fifth Annual Clothing Drive - The most successful yet! Over 7000 bags of clothing were collected from willing people throughout the community and distributed to half a dozen clothing shelters in the region.
October 2001
Crop Walk, Walk-a-thon for Hunger - Third year of participation for CIA. Record numbers of walkers to part in this community mission project.
November 2001
Volunteer Craft Fair Fund Raiser - The November "Christmas in the Country" craft show was manned by over 40 CIA volunteers who donated their hourly wages to benefit the Churches In Action general mission fund.
December 2001
Fifth Annual Caroling at Group Homes - Volunteers spread the joy of the holiday season to our brothers and sisters in eight local area community homes for the developmentally disabled.
Other note worth happenings...
The CIA continues to pray, support and assist our friend from Freedom Village, (the Christian school for troubled teens), as he overcomes the problems from his past.
CIA welcomed two new member Churches to the CIA.
